  • The road leading up to this area requires a high clearance vehicle, preferably with 4wd.  I managed to get back there with my Saturn Ion but it rubbed on the bottom a few times.  There are several large camp sites along the road leading up to the approach trail.  The approach is a bit long and steep so bring a friend to help carry the gear : )

google map is not climber friendly      [ top of page ]

First it was the Shelf Road map. Now Turkey Rocks.  Seems Google map is not tuned into climbers sites, so always beware those last few miles into unknown areas. Wrong turns, dead ends, private property, can be avoided if you are able to link up to a local climbers group who can steer you on the right path.  Face it, we are still not seen as a ' normal' part of sports society in the US.

Careful people! the google directions has you going through Turkey Rock Estates. THIS IS PRIVATE LAND!!! DO NOT go this way!

You should turn off Stump road onto NF360. Once past the old Turkey Rock Camp sites (yes, theres a sign) turn left at the cairn
