Bex, that flexibility for the toe hook comes in mighty handy when you're gotta reach your leg back to scratch that spot between your shoulder blades. Feels OOOh so goood.
It does look rather sparse, doesn't it? But wait...is that a small piece of red tape?...yes, I think they were merciful enough to allow a tiny piece of plastic up there...
How the hell did he get to where he is now anyways?!? God - I'm more used to trying to distinguish "which, of these many holds, is next - they all look off-white?" not "so where the hell is the next hold?" [bouldering].

Haha, yeah - maybe it's just the places that I climb (indoors) that tend to set routes by coloured holds rather than coloured tape; so the spangly tape thing is a bit of a foreign concept to me really [but like I was saying - there are times when ALL the holds just look 'off-white' so it can get a bit confusing!].

Err, yeah, thanks man.... My point was though - where the hell did all the other holds go??!!??!! I see the holes where they used to be.... they, like, emigrate or something???
;)

So if you smear over/stick your pinky finger in the old holes then you can get away with that, right? 'Cos surely then you're just using "features"?. [am I cheating here? - forgive me for I don't compete!]

my guess is this is a boulder like 8 ft off the ground and was being played on before they finished setting holds up on it. I know, too logical. more fun to think weirdness isnt' it?

And I was impressed the other day when I did my first heel hook.

Personally I think it's more dignified to say "off-white holds" than "that hot pink tape with the sparkly purple stars".

Naw, they just pull all the other hold off in a comp. It's so you don't "accidentally" use a hold that is off route.

Yeah, the "holes" can't be used. Haha, I'm sure someone has tried to get away with it before.
