Free Strike Zone, M7, Loch Vale, RMNP, CO Myself trying out mixed climbing for the first time. Probably should have started on something easier than M7 since I didn't make it too far. It sure was fun though!

Now that's a starter for the ice season. A 'featured shot to get us going I say. Ice can't be far behind when the dry tools come out.
jfox says:
The ice in Loch Vale is actually in already. But it was fun to get some dry-tooling in as well.

Dry tooling? That's called aid-climbing. (c'mon now, I'm just funnin' with you guys) :)

woodchuck07 says:
Hey, just about any tool used for ice or mixed should be called 'aid' unless you only use an 8 ft. alpenstock and tricouni nails on your boots. Geez, I can remember how tough it was to keep an old negative' clearance ice tool with straight, slick grips, in place on the steeps and overhangs long ago. When that ice got climbed with ease years later cuz of the recurved picks and wild handle designs, well that sure was 'aid' as far as I could tell. Ice is an unstable ever changing material, so everything is aid.
