Bex says:
Hemet while bouldering seldom seen but I do it on highballs. I like my brain.
woodchuck07 says:
yah, I admit I had it on yet from taking a closer shot of stickers for the sticker-page. Forgot to take it off, but this loose limestone falls alot too.
Bex says:
Ya Limestone does. It's all limestone here and I hate it.
woodchuck07 says:
Years ago when I climbed at that place about twice a week, I noticed how bad my fingertips were peeling off due to the simple acids made of sweat and limey rock. I never had that happen on granite or sandstone.
Bex says:
Limestone with water does eat skin.
woodchuck07 says:
yes it does Bex. water, sweat forms a weak carbonic acid from the CaCO3 in the limestone. Just enough to beat up fingertips after a long day with no tape. Weak, but it does something.
Bex says:
I forgot what acid it made. I knew it made an acid, it's what causes the Kearst landscapes of Cambodia and Vietnam. Humid climates and limestone bedrock.
woodchuck07 says:
Yes, Karst topography, caves and all that good limestone stuff. Pretty sure it's carbonic, or weak HCl if lots of chlorine present in mineral content.
Bex says:
yep.
