Halfway through Jeremy's class on how to tape for Extreme Cage Fighting I couldn't stand it anymore. With only half built tape gloves I skipped out of class to do Entwash 5.9+ even though it was a finger crack and my gloves were pretty useless. Best viewed in full size.

Ha! That's funny. I've done the same,,,,skip the dull intro' or rope reminders, 'safety check, class review, etc. and just go CLIMB!

Actually this was a demo on how to build pro style tape gloves and then a demo, clinic on crack climbing by Jeremy Collins. Most of the participants were not noobs.

So did ya learn anything DD?

Actually, yes, quite a bit. I have always been the "wrap it around a few times" type of taper but Jer showed me how to do it right if you are going to be climbing cracks all day. If I get to IC next year it will be very useful.

I've been the simple 'wrap around' for taping cracks, but our local rock is so slick that there was not much need to protect whole hand from being ripped up. Just a double layer over that one finger or joint, that was gonna take the punishment on one certain move. Think I saved a tape-lesson article from one of the mags years ago, but have lived a life without needing many total tape jobs.

lol they do look like they're ready to fight! I used to just tape one way, but CT showed some reasons for other taping styles. Who knew?!
doubleD says:
jer showed us the way to tape so you can remove the glove and reuse. And the palm has no tape on it, which is pretty nice.

I've always taped a loop around 2 fingers with both ends on the back of my hand, then wrapped 1 or 2 around the knuckles, a couple of strips across the back of the hand, and finishing off with a wrap around the wrist. When I'm done, I just cut the wrist and pull off; then when I climb again, all I have to do is re-tape the wrist. Nice job on slinging that tree BTW.
Cheers!
