Whoaa.! ! is that his drop off ride flying away there in the lower part of photo? When you can beat your ride down the elevation, yer' doing pretty good. I dropped 14,800 ft. once to beat my airplane ride back to the runway once(chute', not skiing)
Silverton is guided skiing only. They only let 80 people at a time on the mountain. We hit a bluebird day with 20" of fresh powder. Warren Miller was filming that day thats why the helicopter was their. This guy was skiing switch (backwards). Right after I took the picture he did a tomahawk.
You are reminding me how old I am. Plake lives in Tahoe and I think he works for RSN. The name made me smile. License to thrill was favorite ski movie. The extreme ski life is short. These guys have a short pro span. I was a pro bump skier and ended my career with a shattered tib fib. The extreme skier is like being a pro football player. Your gonna hurt for the rest of your life.
Silverton is steep and fun but I will give Kirkwood, Crested Butte and taos the best skiing. I also love St. Anton. All around loveland Colorado is the best ski value in the states. Everyone drives by it. Its got some of the best terrain in Colorado.
The Blizzard of Aaahhs is one of my favorite Plake films. Some convoluted story lines, dreams sequences and craziness all over the world makes those mid to late 80's films some of the best. Thought Plake still made small appearances yet in early 2000 Miller films too, but they've switched to so much snowboarding to catch attention that I've lost my enthusiasm for his current films.
Loveland! Only the locals know of that secret I think. I've probably skied there on 40% of my Summit County days. 10% at Copper. Key, Breck or whatevers, and majority at da'Basin on the East Wall o' fun. Gotta love that high altitude and bright sun in the spring. I save my bucks and only do Vail about every 10 years or so.

Never skied there, but if Warren Miller is filming, it must be treacherous and lots of fun. Was Glen Plake up there doing this too?
