rack full of hexes still do fine

They still work just fine for most crack leads.

I didn't start using cams until I had been leading for about a year, my uncle wouldn't have it any other way.

And he still can't use cams, except for the one that CT donated.
Cheers!

I've never placed a Hex...don't even own one for that matter. You guys ever seen this pic of Earl Wiggins on the first ascent of supercrack? He lead the thing with hexes and the story goes that his placements probably wouldn't have held a fall.

Hexcentrics are a mathematically ingenius design and clever to use. Just a step ahead of Ray Jardine's use of the cam shape for Friends' a decade later. Now I know why so many MIT and CalTech physicists take up climbing at some time. It's amazing how the research and development has progressed.

WC, you know that Jardine stole the idea from Lowe. I didn't until a few months ago.

I have no idea or verification of that. Lowe did nice with those big floppy, difficult to place tri-cams though. Either way, the hex is here to stay, as the basic wedgie stopper.

i just realized that if you guys really want to get ahead of me in points, all you have to do is put a bunch of oldies stuff and trad pics and forums - because i dont do that stuff (yet), so i wouldnt have anything to say. YOU KNOWWWWWWW?

Oh sure you could. Just post comments like 'what the hell is that thing?',,, or 'that sure looks stupid to try',,, or 'why would anybody choose to go up that way?....etc. etc. Just nail us with your innocence and humor.

When talking about traddies you always have 'Is he taking a nap?' 'Are those socks?' 'Is he climbing with a cooler?'

Same as when seeing posts about bouldering I often wonder 'why are there 8 other people, arms raised to heaven, all so amazed and standing about, just 2 ft. below the guy who is wrapped around maybe a 9 ft. boulder.' ?? That baffles me. As a trad, I seem only to need ONE rope mate to make the day work for me.

Ever notice the pics of the really pretty girls that have like, ten guys giving here a spot...they're just hoping to cop a feel. They look all serious and stuff but, I know what they're up to. I'm just keen to the scene, if you know what I mean!!!

'cept when it's some hottie 5.14 climber who is ripped and could crush your head like a marshmallow. then they humbly ask her for cues on how she sent it...and retreat to their lone wolf status..
