After sending 2 5.12's last month, i realized that I have never even lead a 5.11. So this is me onsighting my first 5.11 at Obed - in the Y12 area. It is called Herbivore, which is perfect, considering I am a vegetarian. Photo provided by this guy nicknamed Nacho, who is apparently famous in spain for sending 5.14 back in the day...

Spudz says:

toast4life says:
O_0 that is really high up
and ha, thats a perfect name too!
how long have you been a vegetarian?
mistajman says:
Thats a really cool picture. I hope to make it to obed this summer.
badash says:
thanks. George - Ive been a vegetarian for 2 or 3 years... but before that, i hardly ever ate meat anyways... And mistajman - Obed is incredible. If you go this summer, i think i might see you... its definitely my summer destination...
woodchuck07 says:
I'm humbles just looking at the photo. Nice climb 'ash!
badash says:
thanks.
Universal Rhythm says:
yup looks like a route all right. (haha) nice job though for sure.
"Anyone need advice on making the transition from 5.12 to 5.11 ?" — Andy Cairns
badash says:
Hey is the right side of this picture cut off on your screen? Because the past two days it's been doing that to all the pics on YC dot com.......
thestidham says:
yeah it's cut off a bit for some reason. awesome photo though!! looks like a really cool wall. what type of rock is that? anyone ever heard of Diggins, Idaho? I bought the guidebook for it last week and hope to make it out there this summer. it's all limestone and it's mostly super hard stuff, like all .12's and .13's. so needless to say I want to be climbing solid .12 before I check it out, but it's good motivation.
mistajman says:
Yeah, do you mean Riggins, Idaho. Been rafting done there, but never to climb. Have a lot of friends who boulder there a lot, and have seen some sweet pictures of the sport climbing!! Have fun!
badash says:
sandstone, baby - the best rock there is! welcome to the southeast!!! =)
Spudz says:
have you climbed on any other rock that is not sand stone?
thestidham says:
really? I know the south is full of sandstone but I never would have guessed that for sandstone. yeah I did mean riggins, not diggins. is there good bouldering there? in the guide book there's mention of a few boulder problems but nothing worth bringing a pad for.
thestidham says:
I dunno granite is pretty freakin rad-squamish, leavenworth. volcanic is cool to-smith, hueco. that's mostly what we got. good stuff. I do like sandstone though. wish I lived where you guys are with so much quality climbing everywhere.
Spudz says:
the granite in Atlanta= crap!!!
badash says:
Although i consider Obed a sport climbing crag, I have friends who love the bouldering. It is worth bringing the pad from what they say... Oh, and SPudz - yeah ive climbed a few different kinds of rocks. FOr instance, what kind of rock is at Elephant rocks? is Hound ears sand stone? Hmm.. i might have only climbed on 2 kinds. But i think ive climbed on granite, im not sure.
Spudz says:
what kind or rock is at the Elephant rocks?
badash says:
thats the question i was asking everyon else... because i dont know...
Spudz says:
its probably sandstone
badash says:
no.... i dont think it is. Hold on, let me look it up.
Spudz says:
ok
Spudz says:
where is the elephant rocks
badash says:
okay so its granite...
Spudz says:
how do you know
badash says:
missouri
badash says:
i looked it up on the internet.
Spudz says:
Lrc is Sand stone
Bex says:
wow you guys were back and forth on that one.
badash says:
i know its sandstone. and yeah, we pretty much were minute after minute.
Bex says:
Ya pretty much. I looked away cuz I had a customer and bam you guys were talking away.
Spudz says:
im leaving climbing in about 20 minutes
cant wait!!!
Bex says:
sounds fun, I have 5 minutes left in my lunch.and 4 hours of work left.
thestidham says:
this was quite the tangent you to went off on, but it was about climbing so I'll let it slide. I wish we had more sand stone near my local. it's such a fun type of rock to climb on. and it's not to terribly hard on the tips. climbing on granite or the volcanic rock at smith totally destroys your skin after a few days. I know I didn't climb hard enough if my skin in still intact.
badash says:
i climbed on limestone this past weekend and it SUCKS! superr hard on the fingers for sure!!! Oh yeah, and STEVE OUTING - the pictures arent cut off anymore!!!
Bex says:
Ya I live on Limestone it's brutal It's mainly what I've climbed.
woodchuck07 says:
Limestone + fingersweat = acid rock. Ash, I'm eager for school to get out so you can post photos 4 hours a day and climb for another 12.
Spudz says:
what about me
woodchuck07 says:
Stay in School Sputz...it will do you good to learn more all summer (and thus leave more climbing for the rest of us!).
Spudz says:
i think you need to get a job and get of this site for a little bit
cause your on it 24/7
but before you get a job get a degree
Bex says:
oh come on nopw we must be nice to our little friends Spudz.
thestidham says:
summer break!! well, not really. I'm taking one course during the summer and I'll be working here and there, but still. summer break!!!!!!
woodchuck07 says:
i've decided i need to blow off any responsiblities this summer and just hit the road for fun, fun, fun.F!
Bex says:
I wish I could do that. But I'll hang out here and worrk look for rocks on my days off.
badash says:
sorry guys - if you read that "personal update" post on my blog, you'll understand why im not on here as much in the past couple days. A few days ago my dad banned me from the site, but here i am again... i cant wait for summer - exams end at 10:40 AM on may 22... woooohooooo! oh, and i would post more pics, but i dont have a new camera yet!!!!
woodchuck07 says:
Ohh, sorry I missed the update. I just hit all the photo postings and their updates/responses. Were you spending too much time online, or did our strangeness get you 'grounded'? Can we do anything here to be better 'guests' online?
Bex says:
That sucks you were banned.
woodchuck07 says:
hurry hurry hurry back!
Bex says:
You calling ASH Back.
woodchuck07 says:
What? Huh? dunno.
Bex says:
You Nucking Futs :D
woodchuck07 says:
Bex, what the hell are you drinking today?
Bex says:
Sorry 3 glasses of juice and like 4 cups of coffee. Way to much sugar and cafine (which oddly has the same effect as Wild Turkey), mixed with no sleep, and it's my Monday, and I'm blond Damn it.
badash says:
im back for today. ummm.... ive never been "grounded" but i just have to get on the computer for "Homework", and not "yourclimbing" sometimes.... (dads rule)
Bex says:
A reasonable rule...he just wants you to do well in your studies.
climbingwall says:
Welcome back, we missed you in case you didn't notice. Oh, and thestidham, I don't know what you're smoking, but they make sandpaper out of sandstone, so it isn't too easy on the fingers either, just not as sharp as granite. You should come to Colorado; hard granite, soft granite, sandstone, limestone, we have it all.
Cheers!
Bex says:
I din't know Colorado had such a mix. Tht's cool. Ya we missed you Ash.
climbingwall says:
Yeah BA, and when the Nuns hit you over the knuckles with a ruler, it could cause irrepairable damage, then his "Gravy Train" goes down the drain when you turn pro.j/k.
Cheers!
