I love those slabs! And the mandetory visit to the Bucksnort Saloon in Spinx Park right after too.

I agree woodchuck. Thats why I say south west of Denver is a good place. From Conifer south we have some of the best crack and slab climbing in the state. The slab climbing is not really sport climbing since almost all of the routes are put up on lead or chopped. I do not add or chop bolts. I have never even put in a bolt. Soon Staunton state park will open just south of Conifer at Shaffers crossing. From what I have seen most of the park will be open to climbing but lions head will be off limits. If your ever out here let me know and will climb some platte Rock. I don't know if you have heard squat rock and Sphinx Rock are now closed by the landowner. someone posted on Mtn project that the Bucksnort slabs are now off limits as well. They were very rude and threatening. I checked with the sheriff and they are unaware of any closure here. so I posted a comment in response.
Peace
Jeff

Been years (98?) since I was out there to the 'Snort. Have heard so much about South Platte area for great crack climbs. Right now I'm looking for 3 days of climbing around Red Rocks, Vegas in first week of August. Anybody? Anybody?
climbingtrash says:
What days in August WC?

woodchuck07 says:
Get in on Monday, 4th. Ready to show up at Calico Hills 1 or 2 in the cool AM for Tues, Wed, Thurs 5-7th of August. Outa there on Friday. Dam airlines and luggage limits means I'm not bringing much gear. Maybe 6 cams and 15 QD's for a sporty' outing back to the Panty Wall or something. I'm getting better at the approach hikes on the bumleg.
climbingtrash says:
I'll talk with my boss on Monday and see if I can swing one of those days off to come down and climb with ya. (if you want)

woodchuck07 says:
Excellent! I"ll be at the gates when they open?(6AM? when do they?) Calico Hills 1 or 2 is a good enough approach hike for me, or head up at the quarry in that first corridor with the hideous 5.13's
