DD leading the amazing traverse pitch in 30-40mph winds! Nice horizontal crack for hands, seemingly blank for feet until you actually commit, then some tiny edges magically appear :) Then straight up the vertical crack.

Long story but it was quite an experience. We did the 5.8+ first pitch of Great Zot that was "interesting". Then I didn't look at the book before the crux pitch and ended up doing the 5.8 variation that was pretty sustained. The exciting part was topping out at dark with another party that was right behind us. We got lost trying to find the way down and didn't get back to the car til 11pm. We only had two lights to share between 4 people and the descent route is very hard to find, even in daylight. Nat's son was back at the car. She had called him from the top and said we would be back in about 1/2 and hour. After that call we lost cell signal. At 8:30 he called 911. When we were coming down the slope by Redguarden wall we saw rescue vehicles going up and down the road with lights shining everywhere. They were about to send rescue teams up to find us!

The wind was gusting up to 50 that day i would say, and it was at its most fierce when we were on THIS pitch. 30-40 was pretty sustained. When we returned to our campsite around midnite after our mini epic, one of our tents was completely GONE!!! It was puzzling, we couldnt figure out if someone TOOK it, which seemed to be the case (and if so why did they take the crappy one and leave the good one) or if it blew away! Turns out it was a little of both... it had blown completely flat and the campground host picked it up for us so it wouldnt blow away :)
