Groups: 24 Hours of Horseshoe Hell
60th route of 24 hours of HCR Hell

This was the final route we climbed. Very hard start for a 5.8 but igottagetoutside pulled it. She finished and amazing 2nd overall for women with60 routes lead in 24 hours

Never touched her! Serious fall potential the way she lays out there though. The route behind us left Nat with some serious rope burns on a previous trip when she fell clipping the second bold.

Man 60 routes is pretty insane! And even more insane is that its done in 24 hours! Killer job! I see chalk in the cave, do you have to start in the cave?

There are some insane boulder problems inside that cave but this route actually starts right where we are by putting your right foot up on a little bump, reaching up and cranking. After that move it eases off considerably but unlike other HCR routes in the North Forty, it ends in nice semi-slab climbing instead of chicken heads. The crack behind us is a 5.8+R trad climb (that I have never seen anyone on) and the other team is on a 5.10a sport route.

btw: to get 60 routes each you really can't take very long breaks since you must each lead 2.5 routes an hour and be willing to travel a ways to avoid lines on the lower rated climbs. Very proud of igottagetoutside since her 60 routes was the most of any woman and she ended up 2nd overall for females. It was hard to find open routes in the popular areas after dark so we resorted to some night trad climbing that was exciting. But, one team actually did 100 climbs each! The whole point of the comp was that endurance was rewarded as well as difficulty. Even though several of the women that finished lower than igotta in the woman's division did much harder routes (12's) they didn't have the volume. This format levels the playing field for those willing to suffer the sore finger tips and no rest breaks.

The start looks pretty sketchy but fun. id be afraid to fall on my bum.I would be pretty proud of myself to get 60 routes done in a month. 100 routes is pretty insane! I think i could climb 2.5 routes and hour but not every hour for 24 hours.

From that position you crank hard so you can get your left foot up.

Then you can see that you are locked off pretty low. From there you reach up to some good holds and have fun on the slab to the anchors.
