ring locks

Spring is ticking away in Moab, and sometimes it just overwhelms me how amazing this place is that I get to live in. For starters, the other day I went dirt biking with a friend and we rode for five hours, way into the canyons behind Moab, where I had never been before. The trail wound around cliffs going up on our left and dropping away to our right. The scenery here just never ceases to amaze me. I know for some people it seems a little barren, but for me, the desert is where it's at. I just feel like everything is bold and magnified in the sparse landscape.

But anyway, enough of being mushy about Moab. What can I say? I really love it. It doesn't hurt, either, that there are so many amazing routes I want to climb that I feel as though there will never be enough time to complete them all. Today we went to "The Wall" and I tried Learning to Fly. I'm so excited about it! It's .4 camalots, which is pretty rattly fingers for me, plus it's really steep and the feet are slim to none, so I'm basically trying to campus on ring locks on an overhanging wall. My fingers are now so chubby from desperately trying to dyno one hand to another. I basically desperately pop one hand up to the next "lock", hoping I get it slotted in before the other one slides out. Maybe if I do it enough my fingers will swell permanently and it'll get easier. Not likely, but I still can't wait to go back. Hopefully it'll turn me into a campusing machine.

On a funnier note, I got a phone call today from the casting agent of American Gladiators, asking me to be on the show. I really can't think of anything I would like to do less, but it was pretty funny, nonetheless. I mean, seriously, I think I would need to a) put on fifty pounds of muscle b) grow eight inches c) enjoy wearing hideously ugly spandex suit, and d) care whether or not I could 'joust' someone off of their pedestal with a padded, oversized q-tip.

First, I think you should go for the Gladiator gig...that would be sweet. How often do you get the chance to do something so MONDO?

I know what you mean about the desert, it's like that here in the land of Zion too. I can't wait to get over to Moab though. You going to come join us for a few days of the...

I think your size could help you on American Gladiators....it helps to just run under peoples legs.

Katie, the small fast women have been the ones that are doing good. Who cares if you win any points in the goof events.  Even with a 9 second penalty, you could flash' the big finale obstacle course, cruise up the wall to a lead and win easily.  ( nice cash prize I believe, too).   We had a local girl try out for the original Gladiators'  waay back in early 90's.  She trained at my indoor barn wall for the 'wall' event.  It was fun chasing up after a newbee' to pull them off.  C'mon, make the climbing community proud!  Go for it!

I'm sorry everyone, but I agree with Katie. There are only a few things I would want to do less.

I agree with Katie too. Katie you are so little and cute that I would not enjoy watching you get beat on, but seriously you always post about money woes and can you make decent money?

Oh I agree it's a lame show, but you can laugh all the way to the bank too.  Yes, some of those contestants have gotten crushed, injured too.  I'm confident our Katie is fast enough to slip by them in the contact stuff.  I just want to see her blow them away in the 'Eliminator' finale at the end of the night's episode. Now IF they invited her back to be a Gladiator, well that's a no no for sure. Grab the cash and get out!  Bet it solves some money woes for a few months.

Gonzo, that was excellent!  The dude has that 80's glam' rocker hair and speaks Sean Penn 'Fast Times'  surfer talk too.   Waaaay too easy for our Katie to defeat that guy.

I say if you make it to the show, and realize you have no chance of winning, forget the rules, and try everything in your power to take out as many "Gladiators" as possible. In the football game, run right at them, then dive at their knees, and take them out. In Jousting, drop your pole, grab theirs, and shove it into their sternum. In the rope swing, that guy got lucky, you should drop your kick down, and take out a leg, or both legs, no support, no balance, put them right off the podium.

Cheers!

CW, our girl Katie is a good sport. she wouldn't stoop to such behavior. Now you, me, well we just might consider it.
