Climber Who Saved Life of Another Climber in 2006 on Everest Finally Summits

Posted by tmg820 on 6/1/2008

In 2006, Canadian climber, Andrew Brash, almost made it to top of Everest. At about 200 yards away from the summit, his trek to the top ended when he and the three climbers he was with came across an Australian climber severely disoriented and frostbitten having been left dead by his own team. Brash and his team didn't think twice to save the man's life.

Two years later, earlier this month, Brash was finally able to get a second chance to make the trip and finally reach the summit.

"I almost can't believe I'm saying this, but I am. At 7 a.m. this morning a small group of us summitted Everest!" Brash reported on his live Internet blog.

As he called his wife from his tent in the frigid and isolated Camp 4 high above the world, Brash promised that his days of climbing mountains were over.

"He said, 'That's it. He's giving up climbing. He's retired and all he wants to do is some gardening," she said.

"But I think he was a little oxygen deprived because that's a funny thing for him to say."
