This was on my website, in my blog, a few days ago -- thought you might enjoy it: "I guess climbing has taught me, among other things, that seeing possible routes, even through binoculars, guidebook in hand and dirtbagger whispering beta into your ear can only tell you so much. In fact it tells you very little. Not until you get on the wall -- touch the rock, feel the texture, note spots that are solid (and others decidedly not...) read the striations, and set about the task of moving along vertical terrain, do you actually have data upon which to base judgments."
