The 2007 Palouse Climbing Festival at the University of Idaho has come and gone...but one last competition still remained - the best photos, blogs and videos! Competitors and spectators shared their photos, stories and videos from the festival here at the YourClimbing.com Palouse page, and to make things a bit more fun, we held three contests for those that submitted their stuff. Without further ado, here are the winners!

Anyone heading to the valley this summer? I'm looking for a partner who wants to do a lot of climbing from say, early May til early June. I'm pretty solid on gear and have a decent rack.

Palouse Climbing Festival gives away first cash prize

J.R. Conrow -Argonaut

On a cloudy and rainy Saturday, the University of Idaho Student Recreation Center climbing wall was buzzing with students and guests from across the Northwest with the fifth annual Palouse Climbing Festival.

Competitions were held for men and women in three categories — recreation, intermediate and open. The competition was also open to children in the youth categories. The UI Climbing Club held the event.

“This festival has been my brainchild,” said Daniel Turner, UI climbing wall coordinator and Climbing Club president. “Every year it’s been a focus to make the event bigger and bigger, and hopefully within the next 10 years it can be as comparable to the Jazz Festival. We have the resources, but they haven’t been as utilized as they can be.”

My First Time Since...

It has been too long, way too long since I have been a part of the bear-down, lock-off, yell, struggle, and rub your fingertips raw atmosphere that competitions represent for me. The reason that I have been missing out on this beautiful spring season and good sessions down at the local bouldering area is because I was pulling down too hard in the gym and hurt my fingers. The last competition that I was in was an unbelievably incredible display of crazy strong climbers and hard-as-hell problems (it was regional finals after all), but the climbing festival at the University of Idaho proved to be just as good, just maybe for slightly different reasons.
