Where are the washington D.C. area boulderers at?

Posted by boulderLUSH on 8/5/2007

Hey all, just moved back to the D.C. area from California, it seems as though everyone who I used to go climbing with simultaneously ventured out west as i made my way back. Who is up for weekend trips? are there any bouldering/climbing groups that go out on the weekend?

Hey boulderLush, contact Vegas on "colorado springs rockratz" group. He just moved to Colorado Springs from DC, and has quite a few friends who climb and boulder there, and he would probably be happy to hook you up with some. Find the groups on yourclimbing homepage.
Cheers!

Oops, sorry, it isn't listed on the homepage. Click on my name, and find the group on my profile page.
Cheers!

More than likely Vegas knows more people here than I do (here being DC). I am also trying to find more people to climb with so drop me a line. I live in NoVA, near Sportrock in Sterling. Welcome back!

Send me an email, and I'll get you in contact with my old crew. My friend Ocean is putting together a guide for bouldering at Angler's Inn. There's also some bouldering at Northwest Branch near College Park, but the place is pretty trashed. Watch out for glass and trash. Of course you can TR at Carderock and Great Falls, but I'm not a big fan of those areas. When I was back there, a good climbing trip was about 3 hours away. Either to clip bolts at Franklin, WV, boulder at Cooper's Rock near Morgantown, WV, or trad at Seneca Rocks. For a weekend, you would be hard pressed to beat the New River Gorge, about 6 hours away. World class climbing there. Plus, the Gunks is about 7 hours, North Carolina is about 6 hours away, The Red River Gorge is about 9, and I think it took us about 11 to get up to Rumney.

Anyway, the crew climbs Tues/Thurs at Sportrock, Alex. But I do know of some folks who climb at Sportrock, Sterling, and Earthtreks, Rockville. I can put you in touch with the local gym rats if you want. Just hit me up if you want the beta.
