Gear Express has Singing Rock Blues harnesses on sale for $17.00. I've ordered one as my old harness (had it in storage for nearly 10 years) was trashed. Have any of you ever used one of these? Did you like it? Did it have any outstanding issues that I should keep in mind?
This harness is basically going to be an interim harness for me, and hopefully will be too big for me by next year's climbing season. I will feel I got a good deal on it if it is reasonably comfortable and does the job for this year LOL.
God Bless,
mik

Never used that harness before but it looks like a good deal to me. :)

Always shop Gearexpress as those guys in Utica are fantastic. They do alot to keep the ice community informed and on good terms with the local state park officials.
Singing Rock harness is well worth the price. Got a 'sale' one myself a year ago and if I can just get my waist back down to climbing level, I'll be using it every day. Fits nice, padded and comfy.

I got my harness today. It fits great :) I have plenty of room to shrink before I need to replace it, so that is a good thing :) For comfort - it beats the old Bod I had (had to get rid of it, sat in storage for 10 years and had mice nesting on top of it). I like that the leg loops are padded. I hope to find out soon how comfy it is on the rock.
The gear loops on it are weird. They are placed and oriented such that gear will bunch toward the front - so I will probably use my old over the shoulder sling instead for any racking. At $17.00 ($21 after S&H), I think it's a good deal for having a spare harness or two :)
Hopefully, I'll get my husband interested enough in climbing that he will need it once I get my Luna (will be my reward for loosing 50 pounds). Right now, he's all like "no way I want to climb, bleah". He likes artificial walls, but thinks all outdoor climbing is like Cliffhanger and Eiger Sanction and Ron Kauk stunting for Tom Cruise in MI2. Perhaps this or next weekend - he's promised to do some pictures of me climbing soon. He's one of the best photographers I've ever met :)
God Bless,
mik

Just got back from a day of cliffhanger/Eiger Sanction/Tom Cruise like routes. Yeah, that CAN be your day if you choose to do so. I'm waiting for that XL (last one avail) sized 'singRock harness for 17 bucks too. Should arrive in a day since those guys are only 65 miles down the highway from me. A big weekend event planned here at Camp Woodchuck, so any climbers rushing down I-57 just jump off at exit 339 where you will see our wall facing the expressway. Do a route or so, have some chow' and a beverage if needed.

Damn. Looks like a great deal. I'm going to order one now.

I wore it for the first time yesterday (I don't get out NEARLY as much as I want to :p ). I was very pleased with how comfortable it was. The gear loops seemed a little bunched to the front to me, but I think I'll get used to them and won't notice it after a while. Cleaning pro after my partner, I didn't feel like anything hung in my way, so that's a good thing.
Overall, it was a VERY good deal and I am pleased with it :)

Not sure if yours is designed exactly the same as mine is....my new XL one has a 'split level' backside instead of one fat 4" backpad that often just makes you sweat more. Felt great this weekend in use, and best of all by having the XL I didn't have to suck in gut and lie down on my back to get it buckled. Except for the new gear loops and split backside, it looks exactly like the Singing Rock I got about a year ago.
mikitta says:
Yes, mine has the split back. I wasn't sure how I would like it, but it was pretty comfy :)
God Bless,
mik
woodchuck07 says:
Cool. I thought that split backside was only for my wideass size, so there would be room for my ass to bulge out through the slits.

LOL and here I thought it was to keep the extra hip I have in line :P

Tell ya what - one week, no cheat, daily cardio (at least 30 minutes a day). I'm in for it if you are :D It's my weak point, but I'll at least walk 2 miles (40 minutes and that gets my heart rate up) OR I'll do 30 minutes on the elliptical if the weather is bad if you will (what ever your cardio of choice is - for 30 to 40 minutes a day).
I WISH I could get out and climb every day - that would be preferable - but with little ones it's just not possible right now.
You up to the challenge Woodchuck?
God Bless,
mik

my cardio is out on the water doing kayak sprints up/down the lake. feels great too, for shoulder rotation rehab. My days are too unpredictable to make a regular work out schedule. I hit or miss on it all the time. Yesterday was an 11 hour sweat and work construction outside, so that counts I say for a workout.
mikitta says:
Definitely :)

Sounds like Red Skelton!
