Just wondering... I went onto Flickr today to see if some of my photos had received any feedback on that site and discovered that all pics are listed under yourclimbing.com with Katies photo. It kind of through me, because I thought that my pics would be posted to Flickr under my name, and am wondering if this is the only way that they could be posted. There is nothing in the photo upload content that says that when our pics are posted there, they won't be under our name. I am not complaining, it just took me by surprise.
Cheers!

Thanks for your comment. The main issue is that it would require us to get usernames & passwords for end users' Flickr accounts. We could still do that, but then it would require another screen in the upload form ("please login to Flickr") and we'd have to deal with cases where the user enters the wrong password, thus requiring us to reload the original upload page with an error message etc etc.

We try to offset that by giving user credit on all the photos. For example, notice on this photo that the caption has a link back to the user profile of Spudz, who originally uploaded the photo.

Also note that if you delete a photo from our site, it is automatically deleted from Flickr as well.

I hope this makes sense. It's never our intention to take credit for other people's work, just to simplify the workflow. But please keep the feedback coming.

thank goodness I have no idea what a flickr is, besides a bird. I continue to remain as techno stupid as I can. Thanks to the simplicity and fun on yourclimbing.com, I at least have ONE place to post stuff from my world of climbing.

Just to add to Drumdance's note (aka, Derek, our CEO and chief technologist), captions for YourClimbing photos that appear on Flickr.com automatically include information about the photographer. Here's a typical caption as it appears on Flickr:

([Red Cliff Bouldering, Colorado] was posted by [Rock Climbing at YourClimbing.com] user [Nathan_McBride] and tagged as [Red Cliff], [Colorado])

The brackets indicate links, so a Flickr user who views the photo will be able to click through to the photographer's profile on YourClimbing.com.

Our intent with this is to give your fine photos more exposure to a wider audience (Flickr's), and get some of those Flickr users who are climbers to know about and come join in here at YourClimbing.com.

Whenever you post a photo to YourClimbing.com, you can unselect a checkbox so your pic doesn't show up on Flickr. ... And we're happy to remove your photos from the YourClimbing area on Flickr if you don't like them appearing there. Just ask.

Thanks for the feedback. We're always open to reassessing and possibly changing how we do things.

Thanks for the info guys, I repeat that I am not upset by this, I was just surprised that when I entered climbingwall on Flickr, I got one photo of Gonzobeers' dog Jake, and alot of photos of climbing walls, and nothing of mine. Keep up the good work, and thanks for replying to this post so quickly.
Cheers!
