Hi everyone! I'm a complete (and I mean, COMPLETE) newb to this sport. My gf took me a rockclimbing gym a few times, and I have been completely hooked! I come from an endurance background (triathlons, ultramarathons), and climbing is a perfect extension of complete focus, fun, and conditioning. I will admit, I am in awe of watching the accomplished amateurs and pros like Katie. You all make it look too easy.
I will be climbing at SportRock in Alexandria, Va. I hope to learn much from everyone. Thanks for putting up with any stupid questions in advance!

Welcome "kth", you'll find we use abbreviations for names here. Vegas, a climber on this site, and a member of the Colorado Springs Rockratz group is from that area, and would be more than willing to hook you up with some of his buddies. Just leave him a message, I'm sure he'll get back to you, meanwhile, I'll get a message to him to let him know there is someone from his old stomping grounds on this site.
Cheers!

Welcome to the fold! I'm a NOVA guy myself, so hopefully I'll see you at Sportrock. There's not a ton of great climbing right around DC, but there's some good stuff if you know where to look. Almost everything near the beltway is toprope only, for trad or sport climbing you'rve got to drive farther out. That said, Great Falls has some good routes and it's pretty close. There are some decent guides available from Falcon, usually you can find them at a local REI or HTO. And don't forget, you're not that far from the NRG, which has some of the all-time best climbing east of the Mississippi. (I grew up in Utah and Colorado, can you blame me for being a bit of a western snob?) At any rate, welcome and good luck with your new hobby. It's a great sport to be involved with!

Hey Dood,
Hit me up and I'll get you in contact with the folks that climb at Sportrock. Plus, I know Lillian and most of the staff there so I can get you plugged in. If you are getting started, I highly recommend taking their FFI class. My friend Kathy is teaching it for the first time, so I'm trying to send some students her way! But yeah, I can get you plugged into the whole DC climbing scene. Just hit me up, eh?
