So I've noticed a decline in the use and acceptance of the Monkey Call in Yosemite and elsewhere. You used to hear the wall rats give a nice Monkey-esque hoot from the ground or to others on nearby routes... no longer. I yelled out to a couple parties on El Cap, no response. I was on the Leanin Tower and yelled over to a party on Roulette.. nothing. It makes me sad

Seems this site is NOT much for aid or heavy trad route sharing of info, or comments.
I recall using a loud double 'Whoooop, Whooop' when searching for friends, and they would respond with a loud single 'whoooooop' if they could hear. yeah, guess it was a thing of the late 70s and early 80's' and if those climbers have moved on and don't frequent the Valley, well no more monkey calls to hear I guess.

The Monkey Call is still alive and well but most of us have toned it way down for different reasons. It all started by a small group of friends that were living in Yosemite Valley in the mid ’90’s. We were tight, like the Stonemasters of the ‘70’s, but called ourselves the “Rock Monkey’s”. One special monkey named “Coiler” actually first used the call and it quickly caught on with a handful of climbing friends. At first we would usually only Monkey Call to find each other or locate stragglers but then it grew and more and more monkey’s used the call. Soon the monkey clan started getting tricked by outsiders using the Monkey Call which usually led to acceptance to other rock monkeys, which made the Monkey Call even more popular. Sometimes the TOOL, or rangers, would use it and try to trap the Rock Monkey’s into revealing their location. Other times there would be so many other monkeys in the Valley of gold, the original monkey clan would spend all day answering Monkey Calls from other tribes… growing very weary. It was inevitable that the Monkey Call would turn into a Raven Call.

Yes, it’s sad….. KAAA KAAA!!!
