Marking the center of a rope

Posted by jimjuliem on 6/18/2008

I purchased a new rope this year. I'd like to mark the center of the rope, but I see on-line people advise against using an ink-permanment marker. I marked my old rope that way (and I didn't die), but is there a safer or better way to mark the middle?

somebody makes a rope marker; I got one, but it was all dried up and wouldn't roll out. I hear normal laundry markers are acceptable, and not the same toxoc chemicals that permanent black markers are.

you can go to a paint store and get really thin neon tape, thats what i use and it works great

I've had no luck with any kind of tape: all gets gummed up and stuck sooner or later.
