Indian Creek recommendations

Posted by ped on 3/12/2008

Last year, I was preparing for a Yosemite trip and I asked for some recommended routes on this forum. I received some killer beta from all y'all, which brought good things. So, I'm looking for the same kind of goodnesz.

The first week o' April, I'm headed on a pilgrimage to a nice little place called Indian Creek.  I was wondering if anyone out there had recommendations. We're looking for some good introductory routes for the first couple days just to get a sense of what we're in for. Donnelly Canyon looks pretty inviting. Any suggestions? After that, I imagine we'll be hitting up more in the area. What's next? Supercrack?

Other than bringing lots of tape and ibuprofen, anything else I should consider?

Climbing Trash will be along to give you the real low down but I'll throw in my $.02
I made my 1st trip to The Creek in November (with CT BTW) Donelly Canyon is a great place to start. I really enjoyed Way Rambo wall also.

Hey Ped, if you can bump up your trip a few days you could hang with us for the...

Donnelly is a great place to start as well as the Supercrack buttress. Do you have the guide book?
As for suggestions, I'd recommend Mueller Stickum spray.

It helps the tape stick to your hands longer. I also seam seal the leather on my toes, it keeps them from wearing out too fast. I like the 5.10 moccasin for the Creek, it seems like I can get my toes to lay flatter in a looser pair.
Bring fire wood if you want a fire and in April, expect to have sunshine one day and then rain or snow the next. Here's a pic from our second day there last April...

By the end of the week it was almost to hot to climb in the sun. hahaha.
If I don't see you there, have a good time and let me know how it went.

CT, if you can master sleeping on your feet, that tent should hold about 6 for the night.

Not after the first poo-monster is left in there you won't. And why am I so strange WC? I'm not strange, just ask AKC. ;)

I sense a lot of anger in you...anger leads to hate and hate leads to suffering; suffering on splitters at the Creek. hahaha! And your ear comment only magnifies your ignorance...my ears are actually pretty small...you must have me confused with WC. ;)

Whoa! It's getting crazy in here =). Thanks for the beta CT and Anykineclimb. I'll pick up some stickum. I ordered the SharpEnd guidebook. I borrowed one from a woman at work to look it over and it seemed pretty good. As it turns out, she needed it back.

So what's the story with this Rendezvous? Elaborate. What kind of craziness is in store? I think we might be there either March 30th or the 31st, so we might be able to partake in some capacity. If nothing else, we could meet for some apres climb libations.

climbingtrash says:

<em>climbingtrash</em>'s picture

Well, the Rendezvous is the equivalent of a "merry pranksters" gathering. (minus the hallucinogenics, hells angels and loud speakers) I could bring some kool-aid though. No clinics or climbing Super-stars.(unless we can lure Katie and Cedar out) Just a week of dirt-bagging. We, "White Gas Willy" and I, have been spending a week at the Creek every spring for about 6 years now and since other friends of ours have started to join us I thought the trip deserved to have it's own title.
Hopefully the weather is good this year.
We'll still be around when you get there so you should plan on camping with us or close by. I think we'll be at the Super Bowl if it's not too crowded, but who knows, the place is pretty popular these days.

Super Bowl it is. See you there!

Dam, I should use my SW air voucher and just come out, sit and watch, enjoy the sun.   But no, I'd go crazy if I couldn't climb something yet. Crap.

Hey, I'm in Utah for the week and was wondering if the Creek has any sport climbing? I'd love to try trad but don't have a rack so i'm stuck with sport.

climbingtrash says:

No sport climbing at the Creek. Are you in Moab?
