Howdy from Athens, Georgia

Posted by jason on 6/26/2008

Just wanted to say 'Hi' to all you cool climber people out there.

I started rock climbing about 7 years ago, but am a perpetual beginner. I lead too much of a distracted life these days to get in much cherished climbing time. So, you could definitely characterize me as an 'armchair climber'.

However, I still do occasionally escape the bonds of job, commitments and urbanosity to touch the rock if only for a weekend.

I will apologize now that I'm not much of a forum poster. But, I'll probably enjoy reading about other peoples adventures.

No need to apologize Jason. We all just do what we can, when we can. Sometimes personal issues are just plain more important. I was an on and off climber, doing it when I could, until I retired at 55 years of age. Now I have joined a group that gets out often. I did my 43 day out this year yesterday. We climbed a little unnamed peak in the Olympic Mountains and got in some hiking (up 4000 feet) and rock scrambling. It was too foggy for the spectacular views we should have had, but good companionship, lots of exercise, and wildflowers everywhere made it all worthwhile. JIM

He's an "Armchair Climber" in at least 4 states now...Kentucky, Colorado, Wyoming, and Utah. Although I don't know if Wyoming counts, unless you can call a camp chair an armchair. Go GB Go!!!!!
Cheers!

Last Tuesday at the Red, Gonzo and I were 'Crack-chair climbers'. We set up home for an hour or so in an offwidth and have the hand scars to prove it. ...and that's all I've got to say about our 'climb'.
