The bags I use for carrying my gear get beat up a lot, or are hard to arrange gear in without ending up with a big mess, especially if I split up the rack and such. Anyone know of any bags or companies that make durable bags, with easy access and maybe a few small pockets on the side for grub or a guide book?

My buddy started his own outdoor backpack company (www.russi.us) a few years ago. All my packs (work, hiking, climbing) are from there and they are great, his struggle is trying to compete with the "big players" in men's technical pack market. He has since created a really great womens pack company too (www.sherpanipacks.com) with both technical and urban packs that is doing well and has fun colors for women.

With the Russi bags, my climbing pack is the Fury 35 (http://www.russi.us/ProductDetail.cfm?Catalog=125&ID=76) and it has all kinds on pockets. Click the "Click to Enlarge" link to see a few more pics with gear loaded on the pack. I carry my trad gear, harness, slings, rope, etc with no problems. They make bigger and smaller versions too.

Yeah, they look pretty cool. Might want to tell him he has a typo in the description of the fury 45 and you have to click the words click to enlarge and not the picture, otherwise you get a broken link.

tell him to advertise on here. A lot of people would see it and Im sure that cause the site is in Beta that the prices would be cheaper... or have him give them gear to put into one of their contests.

Being a Patagonia girl, I must of course recommend their new packs. They're quite durable and really comfortable.
Metolius also makes some great packs that are perfect for cragging. They're not the most comfortable for super long hikes, but they're really easy to get everything in and out of.

I wore a patagonia shirt today that I won ath that HERA event. It has a coller and lots striped colors. I thought Id hate it and never want to wear it. Its actually super comfortable. Ill check out their packs though.

Anyone know anything about the brand 'Chrome' bags?

I use the Black Diamond Boa. It's the best thing since sliced bread bro. It's perfect for my rope, a decent sized rack, a nalgene or two and some crag grub. It also has an internal zippered area that can hold keys and stuff that is decently sized. The best part is that it lays out and you can unzip it like a duffle bag. No more digging around blindly in a top opening bag for gear or having to take all of your gear out to get to a piece on the bottom. I would definitely recommend checking them out and plus they are cheap.

-Peace
