climbing in Lineville gorge

Posted by rosieclimber11 on 2/3/2008

Heading up to Lineville area in April, what's it's like up there, climbing, accomodations? Thinking about camping, any suggestions on where to go? Looking for some opinions and useful information. Much appreciated.

Have you done any research on the area? Primitive camping is basically your only option. Since your planning on going in April you won't need a Wilderness Permit as you would during the season.

The climbing is good. I have climbed both at Table Rock & the NC Wall.

There are only 2 real camping options. The most common one is just south on the trail from the parking lot. Basically in the opposite direction from Table Rock (TR) past the toilets. The only other option is to take backroads to get around near Shortoff on the Southern end of the Gorge. Lots of easy bolted routes on the east face of TR that are maintained by the Outward Bound school (I used to guide for them) and other moderates are around too. The NC Wall and Amphitheatre are worth the hike in, and if you're up for it, head down to Shortoff for steepness.

I think I am going to stay in a cabin, there seems to be some nice ones with all the creature comforts. Thanks for all the tips.

In the mean time, I am buzzin around with school and work, some days seriously sleep deprived. I wake up every day and tell myself it almost over, it keeps me going. Also the dreams I have of climbin outdoors and taking in some beautiful views. I am in need of a recharge and climbing outside with some fresh air is just what the doc ordered.

Take care and climb hard!
