I'm looking at a climbing trip to Brazil in the next 6 months or so, does anyone have any beta on climbs outside of the Rio de Janeiro area? I'd like to do the Rio area climbs, but want to get a sense of what else is out there, too. I'm particularly interested in what might be near Brasilia, but I'm going to be there on a work trip and can travel around to good spots if need be. Just hoping to learn what's out there.
Thanks!

Hi there REvert510! I live in Brazil and I can tell you a bit about our climbing spots here.
For sure Rio is one of our major climbing areas with lots of routes of every kind: sports, trads, bolders and bigwalls. Most of it (if not all of it) are granite walls.
Near Brasilia there are some climbing routes, but not high walls, since the place is located in the middle of Brazil's flat lands. But there is a boulder area near Brasilia called Cocalzinho which is amazing with hundreds of boulders problems to be solved.
Other than that, we do have a lot more to offer. If you need more info try the website below: www.escaladabrasil.com, or send me an email that'll be glad to help you.

Hello revert510! It's always good to know that outsiders wants to come to Brazil and climb! For sure Rio de Janeiro is one of our major climbing places with lots of routes of all different kinds: sports, trads, boulder and bigwalls. A good source of information of the routs there is the website: http://www.guiadaurca.com/ (this one only in Portuguese), for a english website, you may try http://www.aribira.com.br/english/index.html of just Google Climbing in Rio. Now near Brasilia, you'll also find some climbing spots, but mainly sport rotes and boulders, since Brasilia is located in the middle of Brazil's flat land. A very interesting place near Brasilia is Cocalzinho with uncountable boulder problems to be solved. You may try to get more info at www.escaladabrasil.com posting a question in the discussion forum (no problem if you post it in english). Other than that, between Rio and Brasilia there are hundreds of climbing spots with granite, sandstone, limestone and more to climb! Some of the most famous ones are Serra do Cipo, Teresopolis, Pedra do Bau. Search in the net for those plances that I'm sure you'll find good info (you may search for example: Escalada Serra do Cipo, since "escalada" means climbing in Portuguese). Have a nice time in Brazil!!

Beleza, cara! This is great stuff. I lived in Brasil for two years, but that was almost ten years ago. My firm is getting fairly involved there, so I'm really hoping to get to Brasil a lot more often. Adriano, are you in the U.S., or in Brasil?

Legal Revert510! I live in Brasil. Let me know when you come so we can arrange a nice welcoming climbing trip for you. Eventhough I live a bit far from both Rio and Brasilia, our climbing community is quite big and they are always willing to help.
Hope to hear from you soon!
