Pixie Mate Post of the Week - Surreal Oklahoma

Posted by Contests on 11/14/2007 in contests

Competition was stiff this last week for Pixie Mate Post of the Week. It was one of those weeks when it was tough to select just one winner.

But the rules must be obeyed, so we named this week's winner (by a nose): Andychasteen for his wonderfully composed photo of a climber on Quartz Mountain in southwest Oklahoma.

The shot is surreal, with flat farmland as far as the camera can see and an odd 200-foot bulge rising out of it -- to the delight of Oklahoma climbers, of course.

Thanks again, Andy, for sharing your consistently great photography.

Share your amazing images (or videos, or stories) and next week you could win!

Backcountry.com Member of the Month - October

Posted by Contests on 11/6/2007 in contests

October's Backcountry.com Member of the Month needs no introduction to regular visitors to YourClimbing.com. He's the eccentric older uncle to all the younger whippersnapper climbers who hang out here: woodchuck07!

A regular and frequent contributor to these online parts, woodchuck has been close to Member of the Month status several times with his many posts, comments, and overall zaniness. (Some might use other words; we're sticking with "eccentric.")

But what put him over the top this month was his tireless work documenting Rocktoberfest/Petzl Roc Trip last month at the Red River Gorge. Attired so as not to be noticed, woodchuck did some admirable and enthusiastic work documenting the shenanigans at The Red -- from shadowing YourClimbing.com celebrities like Katie and Universal Rhythm, to documenting the amazing Emily Harrington, to blogging about the good times.

Check out the Rocktoberfest/Petzl Roc Trip grassroots channel to see his work.

As October Member of the Month, woodchuck07 will be receiving a $200 gift certificate to Backcountry.com.

NOTE: Member of the Month may go on hiatus next month. As many of you know, the Enthusiast Group is trying to sell the website so that it can continue to operate. Assuming we find a savior for the site, pehaps Member of the Month will return.

Pixie Mate Post of the Week - Things are looking up

Posted by Contests on 11/6/2007 in contests

Maybe it's because the Flatirons are within sight of our offices here at YourClimbing.com HQ -- or maybe it's because it's a great photo. ... Whatever, we loved doubleD's image of two climbers up and down on the Third Flatiron near Boulder, Colorado, and appoint it Pixie Mate Post of the Week!

For sharing such a great shot, doubleD will receive a Pixie Mate V10 Survival Pack.

Share your amazing images (or videos, or stories) and next week you could win!

Pixie Mate Post of the Week - Chalk explosion

Posted by Contests on 10/25/2007 in contests

The Pixie Mate Post of the Week Selection Committee likes a good laugh as much as the next climber. Which is why they chose Speedywon's funny photo of a climber falling as this week's Pixie Mate Post of the Week!

In a stunning bit of clicking-the-shutter-at-just-the-right-moment luck, Speedywon caught a buddy slipping off a boulder problem just as he hit the crash pad. The amusing combination of climber's "oh, s*&%" expression, outstretched hands, and butt-induced chalkbag explosion make for an award-winning shot.

For making us all laugh, Speedywon will be receiving a Pixie Mate V10 Survival Pack.

Share your images of funny climbers and next week you could win!

Pixie Mate Post of the Week - Hanging out

Posted by Contests on 10/18/2007 in contests

The Pixie Mate Post of the Week Selection Committee got to take this week off. That's because when Andy posted the photo Hangin' out in The Vestibule, they knew they had to look no further -- nothing was going to top that.

Andy's fantastic pic, shot on a cloudy day at The Vestibule at The Monastery, Colorado, shows two climbers on two classic sport lines.

For his photographic excellence, Andy will be receiving a Pixie Mate V10 Survival Pack.

Share your photos of other-worldly climbing and next week you could win!

Backcountry.com Member of the Month - September

Posted by Contests on 10/15/2007 in contests

The High Council of YourClimbing.com Member Evaluation has been ... umm, well, we caught them napping in the spare office. But after reminding them that it's already the middle of October!, they grabbed some coffee and assembled to name the Backcountry.com Member of the Month for September.

And the winner is: Anykineclimb. Congratulations!

He'll be receiving a $200 gift certificate to Backcountry.com to fill up on climbing apparel and equipment.

Anykineclimb shared his joy of climbing with us all month with a bunch of great photos, from ice climbing in the gym, to ice climbing on ice (from last season), to his artsy home climbing wall in progress, to kid climbers, adult climbers, and dog non-climbers. We also were impressed with his Best Climbing Joke from his user profile: "Sport climbers have no Friends. or Nuts."

Want to be the next Member of the Month and win a couple hundred bucks worth of new climbing gear? Then post some great stuff this month and it could be you!

Robin's first climbing experience apparently was a great one, and Jimn72 captured just the right moment to demonstrate that with his Pixie Mate Post of the Week-winning photo, "Robin's first climb."

For his photographic skill at capturing newbie nirvana, Jimn72 will be receiving a Pixie Mate V10 Survival Pack.

Share your feel-happy climbing photo and next week you could win!

Pixie Mate Post of the Week - A sublime day

Posted by Contests on 9/26/2007 in contests

Have you ever had one of those near-perfect climbing days? Everything clicked. You flowed. The heavens and earth aligned. The climbing gods smiled on you.

Jedi Mike had one of those days, and he blogged about it in his post, "Kinesthetic Awareness."

So we think Mike deserves a few cups of Pixie Maté for sharing his sublime day with the rest of us mere climbing mortals. (Actually, a Pixie Maté Survival Kit.) And the honor of winning the Pixie Maté Post of the Week.

Share your amazing tale -- or picture, or video -- and next week a Pixie Maté shipment could be headed your way!

Pixie Mate Post of the Week - Starting 'em young

Groups: Colorado Springs RockRatz

Ack! We've been remiss, and missed selecting a Post of the Week last week. (What can we say, except that it's been a bit crazy around here.) So this week we had lots to choose from. Great photos, blogs and video have poured onto YourClimbing.com recently.
