Climbers can jump! - a contest

Posted by Contests on 4/9/2007 in contests
Jump like you mean it!
Jumping is art

Here at YourClimbing.com world headquarters (a.k.a., the Enthusiast Group), we get to hang out with the Jump King. That's Yann Ropars, who is director of business development, and a superb -- and quirky -- photographer.

If you ever head out to the wilderness with Yann, don't expect to keep your feet on the ground. At some point during the day, he'll make you jump in the air for his camera. Check out his jumping photo collection here.

Yann wants the whole world to jump. (Really.) And that means YOU!

So to humor Yann (and because it sounds like great fun), we're asking you and your friends to jump in the air next time you hit the crags. And post a photo in our new Jumping Climbers photo gallery.

We'll pick out the best photo submitted by a YourClimbing.com member on or before April 30 and award some climbing-related goodies. (We're still assembling the winner's booty, but it'll include stuff like a YourClimbing t-shirt, a cool t-shirt from LiveYourPassionGear.com, a box of Clif Bars, some Kodia Solstix wild salmon jerky, etc.)

Yann's jumping photo tips

As to what it will take to win, it's not just about the jumping, of course. Climbers go to some incredibly scenic places, so the background is super important to a good jumping-people picture.

Yann also points out that you don't have to jump very high to get a spectacular photo -- just bend your knees as you jump up, which gives the illusion that you're higher than you really are.

IMPORTANT DISCLAIMER: YourClimbing.com cannot be held responsible should you injure yourself taking a photo for this website. Be careful out there when jumping! It's not our fault if you stub a toe while jumping, or jump too close to a cliff and fall off!! (No Jackass-like stunts, please.) ... So jump safe! ... (Official contest rules.)

OK, get jumping!

Looks like so much fun though! C'mon, woody... give it a shot! You don't even have to jump high! ...Just lift your knees up - it makes it look like you are jumping!!!

OK, as soon as my GorillaPod arrives and I can set up a nice self photo, I'll give it a try. Got an idea how and where.

Bex says:

That would be sweet.

Ash, I can see you jumping a 180 degree mid air turn on your slackline, eh?

badash says:

haha of course - when i fall every 10 seconds.

woodchuck07 says:

so take a video and capture a 'jump' frame later.

Bex says:

<em>Bex</em>'s picture

That does work.

Alright... so I decided to post one. No where as good as the last one from ash, or the amazing attempt from woody, but still good enough to post. :-)

tried to take one today, but each jump was caught 'pre' jump or after I hit the ground. None caught the move in-air. Tough to do on a timer for sure and have nobody here to snap one today. I still say it's an action shot, belongs in the 'action' section.

I have more to post soon. I took them of other people though.

Bex says:

I have t take some pix I am way behind

woodchuck07 says:

<em>woodchuck07</em>'s picture

Hey, is pole vaulting count as a 'jump'? That I can do.

Bex says:

<em>Bex</em>'s picture

It's kinda like jumping. it's like aided jumping.

woodchuck07 says:

<em>woodchuck07</em>'s picture

Well it's a jumping event in track and field...maybe it's like 'aid' climbing is still a form of climbing. So I'll grab a vault photo sometime soon.

Bex says:

<em>Bex</em>'s picture

Yeah it's aid jumping definatley. youy should post a pic of it.

hmmm, been days now. is there a winner yet or is this still an active contest? Update? Latest date of entry decided yet? not that I'm in it, but eager to congratulate the winner.

badash says:

Yo Woody, it says, "We'll pick out the best photo submitted by a YourClimbing.com member on or before April 30"...... so that probably answers your question.

woodchuck07 says:

<em>woodchuck07</em>'s picture

duuuuhhh, I missed the date April 30th on there. Glad you are counting the days Ash' until your victory again. Log jumper' is a winner so far.

badash says:
