Backcountry.com Member of the Month - October

Posted by Contests on 11/6/2007 in contests

October's Backcountry.com Member of the Month needs no introduction to regular visitors to YourClimbing.com. He's the eccentric older uncle to all the younger whippersnapper climbers who hang out here: woodchuck07!

A regular and frequent contributor to these online parts, woodchuck has been close to Member of the Month status several times with his many posts, comments, and overall zaniness. (Some might use other words; we're sticking with "eccentric.")

But what put him over the top this month was his tireless work documenting Rocktoberfest/Petzl Roc Trip last month at the Red River Gorge. Attired so as not to be noticed, woodchuck did some admirable and enthusiastic work documenting the shenanigans at The Red -- from shadowing YourClimbing.com celebrities like Katie and Universal Rhythm, to documenting the amazing Emily Harrington, to blogging about the good times.

Check out the Rocktoberfest/Petzl Roc Trip grassroots channel to see his work.

As October Member of the Month, woodchuck07 will be receiving a $200 gift certificate to Backcountry.com.

NOTE: Member of the Month may go on hiatus next month. As many of you know, the Enthusiast Group is trying to sell the website so that it can continue to operate. Assuming we find a savior for the site, pehaps Member of the Month will return.

Congrats WC! It's about time you were bestowed the crown. Good job on all the Rocktoberfest documentation. (too bad that you're going to be the last one for a while)

Thanks to all for the honor. I do fear the 'crown' and it's powers as witnessed here in past months,..especially that power to smite' someone. I'll try to be a good ruler.....( which for many, could mean I just shut up for awhile, eh?) RocTour was a spectacular time and worth the effort. Hope to capture some good photos at Red Rocks, starting about 48 hours from now to post up next week.(no laptop, no 'ethernet use in my world)

Hey, a RockRat lives!  Where are all you guys?  Haven't seen much of you lately. Post up your big adventures, or at least make up some stuff to post if not-so-great an adventure. That always works here too.  thanks for the response.

Well here it is almost half way through my reign as YC' god of the month, and so little chatter on site. Is everyone taking off the month of Nov., right when the site needs your activity and help to stay alive? Post up, or I'll manage to find some stupid or disgusting photo to add. Are our ice climbers out there finding any other nice starter freezes for the season? RockRats have a group mission lately? Eager for news here..

Well, AKc won't be leaving the Creek until tomorrow. I have a bunch of pics to post up but I need to look through them all first and touch them up as well as resize them. I've gotta get to a friends B-day party so I'll have to work on it in the morning WC...have a good night.

Thank you for reporting in. Glad there are some events and photos to post up and get some interest here. There are new shots, great photos of the day going up, but not much interest in them. What happened to a 20 or 30 response follow up like we had last spring and early summer? Where are those regular folks who kept us laughing with their commentary anyway? I miss the cheap remarks and snide comments each day!! Where is our site population as of late?

Glad to continue on into December, as your 'default King'for another month. Will continue to urge you all to post up stuff every week, to keep the spirit alive here at YC.
