So the three of where working this aerate problem. Aaron and I had already done it once. Jeff was up. He grabs the big ass hld which we had grabbed before. Put his feet on the wall and suddenly the hold came crashing down along with him. Luckly it was on the start. He mananged to roll so the 60+ lb rock barely hit his ankle, and scrapped him pretty badly. It was somewhat impressive. We decided it was time to clean up after that. Man that was a big hold to snap off.
Crashboat seems to be a fitting name |

Posted by roomiepbt on 1/25/2007 So don't you love when plan comes together exactly the way you planned it. We made it Aguadilla without any problems. The morning of my birthday we head down to Surfer's Beach to find the boulders i had heard about. We park the van and head out, well more like turn the corner. Standing in front of us a huge boulder. I'm guessing about 20-25 ft. We don't see any others so we start to setup our pads and scout this monster out. We see what looks like a nice easy down climb, this is shaping up to be a good problem, though there is defiantly a small jungle on top and who knows what the actual top out is like. |
So why puerto rico? |

Posted by roomiepbt on 1/24/2007 So tomorrow is my birthday. I'm hitting the big 30. I always resent my birthday. Its always a reminder of how much i still have to do. So that's why i wanted to escape. I used to travel all the time out of the country so i had the itch. I had read an article in Urban Climbing Mag, and said that it, that is where I am going. Its my 30th birthday, lets go someplace nice in the middle of the winter. So here I am. Tomorrow my small group hopes to conquer the boulders on Surfers beach. That should be fun. More pics hopefully. |

First day of climbing on the cliffs of puerto rico |
|
Posted by roomiepbt on 1/21/2007 So today was the first day out after a pretty straight forward arrival. We had limited beta on the climbing sites near San Juan. Our targets where Bayamon II and I. Mostly II, it supposedly has 120 sport routes and boulder problems. Well the magic trick was finding it! First trick was finding route 28. This turned out to be almost a service road between military bases and the jails near San Juan. After driving back and forth along the road my climb mates asks for verification of what the parks name was. Which clued me in to the sign no one saw, I hung a hard right into the park. A said, the one the sign said. We where gaining hope. Now the directions talked about dirt roads and such. This park seemed to be an old military base turned into a horse park. There was an international comp going on. We starting following the dirt roads and come across empty ammo sheds after ammo sheds. Rocks?? no where. After a lot of frustration we finally park the car and checking every trial we can find. No luck. We finally ask these kids on dirt bikes in the best Spanish we could. He tells us they are on this road, turn right. Its really muddy you can't walk. So we pile back into our rental van and try. Only to get stuck. This is he last straw :(. We finally rock the car out and give up on this site. The day is starting out on disappointment. |
Off I go |

Posted by roomiepbt on 1/18/2007 So saturday i fly off. I think i have gathered all the beta i can find. We have tickets, our passports, and just need to pack. The plan is simple, boulder, relax on the beach and have fun. Hopefully the rain will stay at bay. Its going to be nice to be in warm weather now that the bitter spells of winter are drifting into the DC area. I can't think of a better way to spend my 30th birthday but on a beach hugging rock. |
