Has anyone climbed at Pulpit Rock Open Space?  Looking at Pulpit Rock from the I25, it looks like it's climbable but I haven't see it up close.

Thanks,

Rob Ramsey

Crags around Columbia, MD?

Posted by ramseyrt on 11/1/2007
Groups: Colorado Springs RockRatz

Hello,

Does anyone know of any climbing areas around Columbia, MD?  I've looked around online some but the crags I've found are north of Baltimore or inside the D.C. beltway.  I'm going to be in Columbia for a class next week and I'm hoping to climb a bit after class; class ends at 1630.  If I have to drive an hour or more it'll be dark by the time I start climbing...

Thanks,

Rob

Bolt replacement at Red Rock Canyon?

Posted by ramseyrt on 10/15/2007
Groups: Colorado Springs RockRatz

Hello,

How do bolts get replaced at Red Rock Canyon?  While climbing Mad Scientist at Red Rock Canyon this weekend I noticed that the third bolt is loose; which is right before the crux.  In fact while cleaning the route on the repel down, the hanger had almost come off.  Also the north, or left when facing, anchor bolt is loose.  I also noticed that the first bolt on Billy's Ghost Dance is loose.

Thanks,

Rob

First Trad Lead, The Staircase, Arch Rock - 11 Mile Canyon

The Staircase, Arch Rock at 11 Mile Canyon Park

I met up with a new climbing parter yesterday, a friend of a friend, and headed out to 11 Mile Canyon to practice placing pro and trad leading.  We warmed up on a 5.5/5.6 on the Dome.  He showed me how to belay up and practiced setting up an anchor.  After that we went over to the staircase on Arch Rock.  I got to lead my first trad route.  I placed about 15 pieces of pro, stopping short of the staircase to set up an anchor.  I then belayed up my partner who led the staricase and setup an anchor to the left of the top step.

Is anyone climbing this weekend, Saturday 8 Sep 07?

Posted by ramseyrt on 9/5/2007

Hello,

Any chance I could hook up with someone this Saturday, 8 Sep 07, to climb?  I've been to Red Rock Canyon a lot lately so I'd prefer Turkey Rock, Castlewood Canyon, or Webber Park (near Tarryall and 11 Mile).  I'm hoping to practice placing pro.

Thanks,

Hello from Fountain, CO

Hello,

I recently moved back to Colorado Springs and I'm excited to climb. I came across this group through Cliff. I hope I get a chance to meet some of you on the rock soon!

I've only been climbing once this year, and I haven't climbed otherwise since 2000. I'm pretty green but I'm eager to learn.

Thanks,

Rob
