Has the point system changed? |
I just noticed that I get 10 points for uploading a pic; has this changed, I seem to remember they were worth 1 point when I joined the site. Or maybe I ...uuummmmm... inhaled too much when I was younger. Cheers! |
Human Crashpad is FAMOUS |
In case you guys missed it; our own former Queen is in an edition to this month's "Climbing" Magazine. The extra supplement entitled," Strength Builds Confidence" is a USA Climbing mag that talks with some of the top Competition climbers in America, and on page 22, there's Crash in all her glory. I must say, this is the 1st time I've ever seen her face. She does so well at hiding it in her posts, that I never thought I would be able to recognize her at the local bouldering spot if I was climbing right beside her. |
When is it OK to take gear left on a route? |
So, us Colorado Springs Rockratz were climbing in Eldo on Saturday, and I came upon a dilemma of sorts. When is it ok to take gear left on a climb. We were starting up our second climb of the day, and about 8 feet off the ground, there was a NEW Camalot stuck in a crack. I worked on it for about 5-10 minutes, and finally got it out. Finishing the climb, there was a party of 3 at the rappel station, who decided to rap off the second pitch to the start in one long rap. |

Is that Brett Merlin??? |
Hey guys, Just wondering, but in my new UC Mag, There is an advert. for Scarpa on page 35, and to me it looks alot like fellow yourclimbing.com member Brett Merlin. I may be crazy, few deny it, because I've only met him once, but the guy does look familiar. Anyone know who it is? If it is Brett, shouldn't I win a prize for noticing? Free Schwag is always looked for by me. |
Changing the title of my "Belay Bi*&h" |
Posted by climbingwall on 5/30/2007 Well guys, It happens to the best of us, and I'm no exception. I'm taking a Roadtrip to Vegas to do some climbing in mid June. It will be my second climbing trip in two months. However, to convince my girlfriend to go as my belayer, I had to compromise somewhat. I told her the only reason that I was going to Vegas was to climb as I don't really gamble... except with my life while climbing. She responded the only reason she would go to Vegas was ... not for gambling, but the other reason for which Vegas is known. No, not Cirque du Soleil.. marriage. So being the true climber that I am,( one who would do ANYTHING to climb ), I said OK. So how many others have scheduled a roadtrip with a marriage; either yours' or someone elses'? I would be really intrested to know if I am the only true lunatic here who would agree to get married to their belayer just to get in a climbing outing? Seriously, she is a great girl, who, although she isn't a great climber, loves to belay me. Even after I fell about 20' onto her while climbing at BRC. I honestly was going to climb an easy route and hang a ring at the anchors, and then video her on the climb, reaching the anchors and finding an engagement ring hanging there. It would have made a great post to this site, but the best laid plans, so the saying goes. She wasn't going to Vegas unless a marriage was involved, so I confessed that was the plan all along. If any of you are around June 15th, we will be the newly weds climbing at Red Rocks. Look for the grey KIA with Colorado plates. |
Gonzobeer comes to visit
Posted by climbingwall on 5/18/2007 Well, in answer to the blog,"have you met yourclimbing peeps", the answer is now yes. Gonzobeer arrived yesterday at about 7:45a.m. here in Denver, and after settling in, I took him to a Monolithic Sculptures Boulder here in town to work the kinks out. Today, we went to Eldorado Springs Canyon,(Eldo), to jump on The Bastille Crack. After a great day in Eldo, we are heading to Vedauwoo, Wyoming tomorrow for a long weekend of lounging around a campfire, playing hacky sack, drinking, and oh yeah, climbing off-widths. Boy is he in for a surprise. With any luck, Bob Scarpelli might be around so I can really get GB broken in right. I can promise Bob will make him do more than play with Rowdy while we climb. Anyway, here are some pics of Gonzobeer and I at the base of Bastille at the end of the day. More to come, so all you GB bashers, watch the posts starting Monday.
Thoughts on my first comp
Well I attended my first climbing competition this past weekend and it really opened my eyes about where this sport is going. Kids who maybe reached my waist, were climbing strong. They showed motivation, desire, strength and mental toughness, that is unusual in children in this age. If they carry this with them their whole life, they will be awesome adults. As the comp moved through the age divisions, I didn't see a slackening of these qualities, and where you would have thought competitors would have wanted to win, they showed amazing sportsmanship, by cheering on their competition. On the mens final route, I think everyone, competitors, judges, and fans alike, wanted to see someone, anyone top out, but alas, not this time.
