Or something of the like....it is South African for "human essence"...According to Desmond Tutu the essence of being human is to be non-self sufficient. To be self sufficient is not the human essence...we need other humans...cool - 'eh? If I put up a problem that is one of the names I will use - along w chupenga (or something like that) which is ":liberation from struggle".
This place is ABSOLUTELY UNBELIEVABLE - "you" should be here. Seriously - I almost thought we wouldn't survive the drive from Capetown to the farm, cuz Lisa was all over the place rubber necking and wanting to take pics and scale rock!!! She BARELY kept the car afloat... and I do mean afloat, because the car weighs about two pounds and is likely to take off if driven too fast.
The scenery is beyond stunning - and the volume of rock boggles the mind. As for quality, it is at worst fun and at best....the best....for the last like 150k of the drive, rock EV-ER-Y-WHERE...
On other matters, the people are great, the food, not so outlandish....yet...(ostrich jerky is still unopened in cupboard...Our farm is beautiful, though in an odd way....it is not unlike being in Moab...you'll see in the pics.
Incidentally, it's become apparent that I haven't been bouldering recently. I forgot my crash pad no less than three times the first day, hiking off to the next problem with my pack as though on a mission. Also, I find it nearly impossible to "rapid fire" tries on any particular problem, which, Lisa (the other Lisa, Rands that is) informed me is a classic sign of a route climber.
More to come. Be well.
