As the holidays draw to a close I'm actually grateful that I can get back on track with my training. I opted not to weigh in this weekend because I know that the last 3 days have me way off my program. I know that alot of people post about New year's resolutions but mine is to continue and finish what I've started Topping it off with a fun but tough climbing course.
This weekend I had an unexpected weekend off from both jobs. I cobbled a climbing trip but because of the cold nights choose to get a motel room. (Climber's special less than 50 bucks no roaches and clean shower and sheeets.) We hooked up with some local friends and anticipating a hard hiking and climbing day I carb loaded. Instead of hiking and climbing this was followed by sitting in the car! Due to the cold (the day started at 27 degrees) and a social commitments we didn't even get to the climbing area till 3PM! I was biting my tounge and taking some deep but slow breaths as I saw the day evaporate. We chose a climbing area that I knew had a very short approach and hoped to get one maybe 2 short topropes in. The snow and Ice on the apprach and the fact I was with someone who didn't have their cross-country legs under them yet, compelled me to back off.
My frustration was evident eventhough I tried to hide it and enjoy dinner and the drive back the next morning. I talked to another climbing partner who has just finished an advanced degree and licensinig and hopefully I'll be back with my regular posse after New Years! Before Colorado I'm wanting to get a list of leads in that will give me a good base to work from and this will be my best chance to get those in and have some expierence.
This week I start humping my pack around the neighborhood. I weighed my typical load. With rope, rack and water, my pack is weighing in at 40 lbs. add to that my weight of 182lbs (187 in winter clothes). Walking 2.5 miles in 40 min is 239 calories. Adding 40 lbs moves the calorie burn to 293 or 60 more calories without changing my minumum work out. For my 5.3 mile route the numbers are 538 unloaded, 657 with the pack. Add around 250 calories for the ab work out ,and I've added 480 to 896 calories for each day. You can calculate your burn by visiting (caloriesperhour.com) it is a great tool.
Thursday my climbing partner and I meet to work out the calender. We both have "use or loose" vacation time to burn so hopefully there will be lots of trip reports in Jan. & Feb.
