I woke up this morning with my body hurting all over. And I mean allll over. Every muscle in my body hurts, but the worst of it is my neck. Yesterday we went to the Diablo wall and I took my biggest fall ever. It was on a route called Afroman. I was about 35 feet up and there was a long move to a seam that I couldn't really see. I had my right foot way out to the side in a big hueco. I tried to static the move, but couldn't feel anything, so I started to set up to lunge for what I thought was the good part of the hold. I kept switching my left hand from one hold to the next, not sure of what was better. All the guys in the cave below (comprised of Italians, Slovenians, Germans and Spanish) started yelling encouragement, so I thought I should at least try to go for it. I pushed off and slapped for a hold but felt nothing. I fell completely out of control and screamed bloody murder before slapping the water harder than I ever have before, on my side with my right leg out. At first I thought the worst of it was my leg, which is somewhat bruised, but it turns out I've got a healthy dose of whiplash as well.
Anyway, climbing was not an option today, so we spent the day wandering around town looking at the bevy of amazing shoe stores and other beach trinket shops. Now all I need is a massage and a pina colada and everything will feel better.... :)

Glad to hear you're ok. I was DWS in thailand in february, landed on my side from 50' up. My back hurt for 4 months, it still isn't 100%. be careful out there.

Water is a very hard landing from those heights. Katie, find a nice hot tub or public hot springs to go to.. you need a good soaking there,( then soak your inner bod with favorite beverage after...)

I don't like to give climbing advice to pro's, but if it were me I would have done a back hand spring into a a dyno summersault and just kept rolling upward until I was able to get a hold.
Glad your OK and I was obviously just doing something.

I say wear a loose fit kayak life vest, as it doesn't constrict your climbing much. Then just curl up to protect the legs and slap land on the back of the jacket every time. Besides, you'll look like the Michelin Man when you climb...not as sexy as Katie's teeny bikini but saves the bod' on those long falls.
