Yowsah! What a Rendezvous number five was, huh? We’re almost done digging out from the wrap-up to-do pile here in Fayetteville but we’re clear headed enough to have some guesstimates on various numbers. Here’s the skinny:
Number of Rendezvous attendees: Approximately 1200
Inches of rain that fell during the Rendezvous: 0
Inches of inches of rain that fell the day before the Rendezvous: .32” (hard to believe ain’t it?)
Number of Fayetteville businesses that experienced record weekends: at least 4
Gross funds raised: $14,500
Approximate net: $10,000
That last is the most important of all. Thank you to everybody who made it possible. With you, we’d all be dropping like flies as mank fails by the webbing-inch gorge-wide. Give yourself a pat on the back. Or on the rump. You deserve it!
Of course none of this would be possible without our sponsors, too. Allow us to give one last shout out to: Mountain Hardwear, Patagonia, Climbing Magazine, Urban Climber, LaSportiva, Fiveten, Montrail, Petzl, Osprey, Black Diamond, Sterling Rope, Prana, Trango, Outdoor Research, Mammut, Project Holds, Misty, Metolius, Entre Prises, Darn Tough socks, Chaco, The Warriors Way, Red Bull – and a whole slew of local sponsors, such as Wolf Creek Park, Cathedral Café, Mattie’s Mountain Mud. And of course, let’s not forget the Access Fund, The American Alpine Club and… most importantly, the kind folks at the New River Gorge National River.
In fact, if could ask one more little favor… we think it would be great if the NPS received dozens – or even hundreds – of emails from climbers telling them how great the park is and how much we all love climbing and Rendezvousing here. Send it to Park Superintendent, Don Striker, here: don_striker@nps.gov.
See you in the Gorge!
Jay
