Hey, gang. Just wanted to point out that we've added a new topic in our forums: Nutrition

Somehow we missed including that before now, but a new YourClimbing sponsor (Kodiak Solstix wild salmon jerky) wanted to sponsor the topic -- so we created one.

I've moved a few old threads into the Nutrition forum (since they fit there). ... But as active as this website is, not a ton of discussion on this topic could be found.

OK, now you have no excuse not to discuss the merits of climbing on Sunday fueled on chocolate Easter bunnies!

I know there are plenty of climbers who have no specific nutrition regimen and still climb hard. Especially dirtbaggers on a low budget! The Huber brothers always went to the rathskeller for dark German beer after their campus & system board workouts. Then there is the whole topic about climbers that jones too much about their weight. I'll leave that for someone else to discuss. From my experience it seems that there are more vegetarians among the climbers than the general population? So there are some ideas to maybee get some discussion going.

Before I started climbing I was involved in AAU gymnastics so have a little different perspective on training. Also when I was in graduate school I had two things happen that sparked a personal interest in nutrition. One was that I joined the Board of Trustees of the Ohio Ecological Food & Farm Association. The other was that I met Dr. Christopher Hills, the "Father of Spirulina" and founder of Light Force, a nutritional supplement company. As a result I have had a great education about nutrition and pay attention to what I am eating.

I find that Eric Horst's books have some great information on this subject. The one thing that I do following Horst's recommendations is to have a protein shake or amino acid supplement prior to any power workout then to follow the workout with a glucose replacement drink or complex carbs to restore glycogen.

Sweet, thanks. I know I've made a couple topics about this - im excited what people have to say - especially since I am a vegetarian!
