A week ago last Saturday, I decided to meet up with RR, RRHuney, and Pludos at The Garden of the Gods for a little climbing. I haven't been out in a couple of months with the baby on the way, and me working as many shifts as possibe to cover expenses with Social Butterfly taking some time off work, and me taking off 2 weeks when Margaret arrived. This was my 1st time out since Margaret was born, and I was so looking forward to it! I rode my motorcycle to The Garden, and Social Butterfly was to join us later in the day with Margaret, for her first climbing trip, (albeit a short one). Anyway, after flailing away on the crux of Mighty Thor, .10b, which RR got, (the student becomes The Master),I moved around to a slot canyon to try Candyman,.10a with Pludos. The slot here is about 4' wide at its max, and I could stem to the 2nd bolt. After moving up past the 3rd bolt, I was too pumped to make the one move needed to clip the 4th bolt. I could reach the hold, but lacked the strength to hold on. This hold was a super jug, and should have been no problem, but I hadn't been climbing or training in a while, and Mighty Thor had worn me out. I knew I was going to come off, so I alerted Pludos, and he pulled the rope taunt, and told me he was ready. As I released from the wall, I gave a small push to clear the face, and started down. Unfortunately, I pushed too hard, and about 20' down hit a fin of rock on the oppsite face with my butt. If I had down climbed about 2 or 3 moves, I would had hit the end of the rope before this happened, but as they say, "HIND SIGHT IS 20/20", Bad pun, but good name for a route! Luckily, Pludos medical training kicked in, and after lowering me he started to check for any broken bones. I still wonder what the Tourons on the path thought they saw with Pludos bending over me from behind while I was on all fours with my pants down!!:^) After getting me down, the Rockratz and Co. started pulling all the ropes and packing up to head out. Idiot that I am, I insisted I was OK to ride my motorcycle to RR's house, and called Social Butterfly to let her know about the change of plans. After meeting us at RR's. house, she discovered I had been in an accident, nad promptly smacked me on the rear, (accidently she swears!). I went to the doctor on Sunday, and was told I have a fracture of the L1, Sacriilliac (sp), joint, in otherwords, I broke my butt bone. So I feel great supplying the Rockratz with endless oppurtunities for jokes and amusement, but I can't sit down for more than 5 minutes at a time.
NOW, what I want from you guys is all the smar- alec remarks you can come up with as comments on this thread. Let's see how creative you can be! I started it off with my title, but let 'er rip.
Cheers!

Rockratz says:
HMM lets see you were climbing in a "Crack", you fell and broke your "Crack" now you have two "Cracks" in your butt!! Sounds like a hard day of "Crack" climbing to me. Katie would be proud.
On a serious note, i actually missed the fall i was belaying RRHuney around the courner, but once i got to him Berghurd and Pludos had it under control but Mr. CW was looking bad bad bad. I felt so bad for him infact he was hurting so bad he didnt even make jokes or smile about his situation until 5 hours later that night. He is still gimping around a bit but he is a tough tough dude and we will be back climbing together soon im sure.

Watch out for the Candyman... he'll get you in the END. But on a more sympathetic note, I ride as well and that must have felt like a long ride back. Get well soon
Anykineclimb says:
sounds like that route wasn't all it was "cracked" up to be.
You shouldn't have "half assed" it
now you're the "but" of all our jokes
Now you are and have a pain in the ass :P

climbingwall says:
It's still very sore, but getting better each day. I just can't sit for more than 10 minutes, which sucks, cause I can't hold Margaret for more than that long.
Cheers!
