Well....sorta. The rope soloing idea turned out to be a bit of a junk show, but fun nonetheless. I think the main problem was that the particular route I chose to climb on was a. too steep and b. too hard. This made unweighting the rope and getting onto the rock a difficult task, to say the least. Have you ever been toproping a really steep route only the toprope belay is too tight so the entire time your feet want to pop off because the rope is pulling your waist away from the rock? Well, that's what it was like.
Luckily, nobody was there to see me while I spent a good twenty minutes trying to remember how to tie a prussik to ascend the rope. Cody had a great time, though, running back and forth between the top of the crag and the base of the crag, completely flummoxed from this break in routine and unsure where he should be. (You see, humans take a ladder down to the base of the crag and dogs have their own special trail. Cody thinks it's the best game EVER.)
In addition, it is getting HOT here in Moab. And I mean hotter than Hades hot. I can't imagine what it's like in July -- luckily I won't be here. At any rate, it's even getting hot in Mill Creek, so said route may have to be put on hold until the fall. Perhaps we should head back to Rifle for pre-S. Africa training....
