Count down, 4 clinical days and 3 classroom days!!! WHEW HEW!! I have one month of school left! Wow! Can you believe it.
So, I've not been climbing as much as I'd like due to my schedule. This semester had made me put on ten pounds, so I am bumbin.
Really, every lbs counts, it's amazing how your climbing can suffer b/c of a little weight.
I've been reading about how some climber have horrible dietary habits in order to stay slim.
It also sounds like the guys obsess as much as the girls do.
How do the rest of you deal with weight issues? Any worlds of wisdom.
peace....

My friend Dan was super obsessive this winter due to training for an ice comp. he lost about 20# though so it worked out but yeah, he was real strict on his diet! lots of chicken and almonds...

I have a lot of info on this kinda of stuff, strength to weight ratio is really important in any sport that you want to excell in. There was this test done with boxers, (boxers are usually in weight classes so they are obsesed with weight ratios) the test found out that many of the atheletes tested were much stonger when they were slightly over there normal limit. I am not saying that you should be an over weight climber. But you should have a training regimen and extermely healthy diet with lots of water and let your body take its natural course would be the most benificial to your strength to weight ratio. But do be careful for injury to tendon and conective tissue with excess weight and power. Healthy nutrient dense food, vit C.... keepin it real....

Thanks for that, but it's harder for women, we naturally carry more fat on our bodies than men. So what works for men doesn't always work for us chicks.
Also as we get older, it gets harder and harder to increase the muscle mass ratio to fat. What else do you got, as far as info, I know I do best when I combine a balance between carbs(good) and protien. I've tried many times to cut out the carbs and I get ill, so instead I use whole grain pastas and breads(ezekiel) and I don't eat more than one serving of carbs daily.
I know what the charts say about someone my build, height and what I should weigh, but frankly I know thats not realistic at my age. That to me is misery, not healthy. Sometimes I find people loss sight of whats important pertaining to health and diet. For example lets say there's a 5'1" chick who weight 100lbs, can't walk up a flight of stairs w/o being out of breath, has high cholesterol and no muscle, thats not being healthy;just b/c someones looks thin doesn't mean they're fit.
I need to shed 25 lbs but even at that I am more fit than most of the people I work with. So now I am trying to get rid of this wt and feel better about my fitness and my self. Once school is over I'll be better able to focus on my fitness and becoming a better climber. So I will gladly take any constructive comments on how I can be better at my fitness and climbing.

I find that only so much can be done with diet. I to would like to loose 20 pounds for my climbing. having a sport that motivates you is helpful. My challenge is 2 jobs and trying to stay consistant. My trainer si telling me to rest beween workouts but if I do that I may end up not doing any exersize for 3 or 4 days if my work schedule gets busy.
I'm frustrated with the weight not gaining but not loosing either. Hoping if i keep in shape and concetrate on my Aerobic endurance when teh weather gets stupid hot here I'll shed the pounds naturally.

This is true and as you know I too have my challenges in getting to the gym, resting inbetween workouts and then there's work and school. Luckily for me school is almost done, so I can start to be more consistent and I know for me that is a big part of it.
I decided that I am going to continue to eat the way I do, which is low fat, low carb and higher in protein(85-90% of the time). I am starting to think that you shouldn't restrict to much and those things which we feel like we can't have, do so in moderation. So once a week I have something sweet and once a week I eat a small bag of chips. That is not what is hindering my weight loss, it's a combination of not overeating(emotional eating) and not getting enough cardio/climbing in. So I think I have a plan and I put it in place, so now it's really up to good ole time. I'll let you know how I do.
For a guy this should be much easier, look at what you eat and make small changes, you'll be amazed what a difference cutting out for example soda or eating a few more vegies or fruit can do for you.
Yes, cardio is whats going to amp up your game, hands down........good luck!
