Now, where was I? Oh, right. Back to Canmore climbing. Yesterday was less than auspicious. We went to a place called Planet X, which is about an hour walk up Cougar Creek. Beautiful hike, with little climbing spots dotted along the way.
But that’s not the less than auspicious part.
First of all, I decided that I needed to stop drinking coffee, so I was super sleepy the whole hike. Then when we got to the crag I felt really spaced out, and I had a hard time concentrating on climbing. My brain was going a million different directions. On the first route I broke a hold off, and then fell later, more because I was COMPLETELY not paying attention to what I was doing. Then, on the second route I fell off the 5.10 section of the route. I put my foot on a hold – I can’t even describe the level of my spaced-outness – and off it went, and off I went.
Anyway, after that pitch I figured I should just cut my losses and depart, otherwise the next route I would forget to tie my knot or something. So we ended the day early.
Today was Acephale, where we met up with a few fellow Americans – Dave, Joe and Keith. It was a busy day up there, but luckily I had already given up on the no coffee plan, so I felt way better climbing.
The way I figure it, coffee is really my only vice, so a little won’t kill me, right?

So glad to read that YOU have days like that too. We often may just think that you are not human, are only capable of sending 5.12 each day in your sleep. Nice to know we all can have off days in some way.

If a few cups of joe is your only vice, then i would say don't even worry if you pick up a couple more. Not to mention, that if you have a big glass of water to compensate for each cup of coffee, then I would argue that it is no vice at all.

That sounds like a normal day for me *sigh* Maybe I'll start drinking more coffee.
