Deep water soloing

Posted by katie on 8/18/2007 on katie's blog

It's always exciting in the life and times of my life. Yesterday my dog ripped his stitches out and had to be re-stitched. Now he's a very cute cone-head dog to keep him from licking his stitches. Of course, he's acting like Ee-yore, moping around like he's being abused. THEN, this morning I woke up to a flat tire and was forced to change a tire pre-coffee.

But anyhoo, down to the climbing part of this story. Yesterday we checked out the deep water soloing at Grassi Lakes. All I can say is BRRRRR!!! The climbing is very good, but the water is a chilly 55 degrees Fahrenheit. I only fell in once, and trust me, I did everything humanly possible to avoid doing so. And then I couldn't breathe. It was so cold that I sat there treading water, trying to swim to shore, and I couldn't breathe! Everyone on shore was half laughing, half thinking that they were going to have to dive in to save me.

The good news, though, is that I have video of climbing!! Check it out.

Katie, you need to fatten up to insulate yurself from the cold if you plan on anymore Great White North kinda cold water solo work. But we prefer the Katie of today, and hope you give up any thoughts of fat layering over the winter. See you at RRG in KY in Oct?

How about wet suit instead?

well crap, that just makes it too easy, too sensible.
So a shorty bodyglove would do just fine, especially for any needed body jams and that 60 ft back slappin' fall on the water.
