Our good friend and YC member 'Badash gave me this terrible news this evening. Our friend Ben Strohmeier has died in a fall at the Red, along with friend Laura Fletcher.  Details are still being sorted out, but can be found at Rock and Ice weblinks. Friendly and outgoing, sincere in his efforts, it was easy for anyone to talk with Ben.  I admit I'm a relative newcomer to the Red, and don't know him as close as many others do. But I did catch him late one afternoon, climbing Ro Shampo at the Roadside Crag. Here's my small photo tribute to Ben.

If you have anything to share about Ben, please do.  What was his favorite route at the Red?  A big project he really wanted to complete?   Anyone know about his Red Rocks Vegas area climbs?  Tell us what you feel, and talk to friends about Ben today.

Somebody tell me why this %&$A@% site won't let me attach the other 5 photos. Sorry, but I'm sick and tired of the foul ups for the last 10 months. I'll post them as separate photos.

Ben was such a good guy. He was so passionate, enthusiastic, alive! He was too young, man.... too young.

I always hear of these climbing accidents... and I always feel so bad... but i NEVER expected to know the victim(s).

I can't believe this is happening.

Read about this on RC.com and wondered if it was the same one...apparently so. Sorry to hear.

Ben was always around for route ideas, info, help to anyone who wanted to sit and talk. He was the perfect full time fixture at Miguels this summer. So sad that this happened. RedRiverClimbing says that there will be grief counselors coming out who specialize in working with death of young persons. They will be at Miguels either late Friday, but for sure on Saturday.
