About Maps on YourClimbing.com

All content posted to YourClimbing.com can now be "geo-tagged" -- which simply means that we can identify the location that the item references, or where the individual posting the content is based.

For example, if you post a photo of a trail in Moab, UT, you can use the map interface to locate the approximate location of the trail.

When you post a new photo, video or blog item to YourClimbing.com, you'll be given the option of setting the location on a map. For a fast map lookup, simply type in the name of the nearest town and the map will re-center on it. Click the map to set the location for the content.

If you don't want to set a location for an item that you've posted to the site, simply click the "Location irrelevant" checkbox when you are posting.

Default location: When you post a new content item to the site, if you are logged in and have specified your location in your member profile, the map will default to showing your location. Simply navigate to a new location (e.g., that trail in Moab) if your posted item is about someplace else, or click "Location irrelevant."

Why are we geo-tagging content?

As YourClimbing.com grows and the content on the site expands, we wanted a way to sort and find stuff more efficiently. By capturing location data for content that is posted to the site, we can create new ways for viewing and enjoying what's been posted by members and staff.

For example, with geo-tagged content, we can show you all the new photos, videos and blogs that are from Canada, or just from Vermont, or within a 50-mile radius of Boulder, CO.

We'll be rolling out new location-based features in the months ahead.
Stay tuned!
